To catch you up...

Hello,

There's a house on the move and many people have expressed interest in this whole process. So, here's a little blog to help keep people in the know of what is happening. Joel and Laura are the homeowners and I am the appointed blogger (and Joel's dad). Here's the abridged background on the whole adventure:

The high school is buying up the properties along Main Street so they have room for future expansion and parking. They want the land, not the houses. They bought a couple of places and tore them down. Sad to lose old houses. Last fall, they purchased 511 N. Main. This is a nice old home with character, very solid. It is nicer than the two homes previously destroyed. I suggested to my son Joel and daughter-in-law Laura that they explore the possibility of buying the house and moving it. Our back door neighbors happened to own a lot just two lots down from them, so maybe they would sell and the house could move there? Well, it all worked out. Now the house is moving from 511 N. Main Street to 501 N. Third Street. That is one block east and one block south. And yes, they will be living very close to us: across the alley and two doors down. However, we won't even be able to see each others' house, so that should add some "distance." It's not like we'll share the driveway with them.

Here are a couple of photos of the house at 511 and the spot where it is moving....501.

511 N. Main as it was purchased. Last house on the north end of the block.

It will move here, one block east and on the south end of the block, 501 N. Third Street.
(Property goes from the alley on the left to the right of the big pine tree in the foreground and back to the large tree to the right of the neighbor's little blue shed.)
