Footings, the wider concrete pad that the walls will be built upon, are the first thing to be formed up for the basement. On Thursday, Bert got most of the footings formed up using the measurements from the house (measuring both the old foundation and the house itself--not necessarily exactly matching). He finished up the forms today (Friday). Two loads of gravel were dumped on the site and he spread some of that on the floor of the hole. The gravel not only makes a nicer base to work on, but will also help with drainage under the basement. A tile will be put around the inside of the footings prior to the floor being poured. There will be another tile around the outside of the foundation. Dry basement is the goal.
Forms for the footings.
Defining the footprint of the house.
Two trucks showed up with gravel. We need one today and the other later, but got both today.
Gravel on the floor of the hole. Forms get filled on Monday.
And, there are always more bricks to salvage at 511. We are on our 5th stack. We get about 350 on a pallet, which Bert says is what he can easily move to the other site. These will be sidewalks and such.
